Background/Expectations

This position will develop a high-impact research program using population-based study to define factors that influence diet-microbiome interactions, and how such factors affect disease predisposition.  This is one of multiple positions currently open with the Nebraska Food for Health Center to build research expertise in this area across the University of Nebraska campuses; see other open positions here.  The candidate is expected to work closely with members of the externally-funded Nebraska Food for Health Center (NFHC) and collaborators at the University of Nebraska Medical Center - College of Public Health to understand complex diet-microbiome interactions. The long-term goal is to implement dietary modulation strategies in healthy and disease populations. 

The tenure-track Assistant Professor in Nutritional Epidemiology will contribute to the integrated land-grant mission (research, teaching, and extension) of the home un­it and the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources (IANR), as an effective scholar and citizen, including supporting student recruitment and IANR science literacy.

Duties (as appropriate)

Workload will be 80% research 20% teaching in the area of Human Epidemiology, Nutritional Epidemiology, or biostatistics. 

  • develop a high-impact, nationally and internationally recognized research and teaching programs in the field of Human Nutritional Epidemiology (emphasis on clinical studies)
  • seek and establish effective disciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations including effective integration with NFHC members, the Quantitative Life Sciences Initiative, and the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Public Health
  • Connect with stakeholders, agency, and/or industry partners to strengthen research and teaching programming; effectively obtain and leverage external and internal support (grants, fee revenue, etc.) for research and teaching activities;
  • mentor graduate students; publish in high-quality, high-impact peer-reviewed journals, and participate in scientific meetings and other appropriate professional activities;
  • translate research-based information into learner-centered products:
    • create scholarly, innovative, and high impact learning programs and tools;
    •  identify issues and opportunities focused on learner needs
    • measuring the impact of your programs and communicating results to a variety of audiences.
    • mentor colleagues through professional development, translational research, grants, and professional writing.

Required qualifications

A Ph.D. in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, Data and Computational Sciences or related fields

Preferred Qualifications

  • demonstrated experience in human clinical studies and/or population-based study involving multi-dimensional data sets that include nutritional/dietary data and clinical or biomedical measurements
  • evidence of a strong publication record, demonstrated success or potential for obtaining funding, excellent communication skills, and experience working and leading multi-disciplinary teams
